About the Collaborative

According to The State of Aging and Health in America 2000,  the key to improving the health and quality of life for all older Americans will be the collaboration between multiple and diverse groups, on the national, state and local levels, including members of the public, health care providers, government agencies and community groups.

Under the umbrella of the Healthy Aging Regional Collaborative of South Florida,  local, state and national leaders are effectively coordinating the delivery of evidence-based programs while grantees are making prevention and improved health a reality for older adults. The Collaborative leads a national movement to deliver prevention programs through aging services and health care providers at the community level.
Since the Healthy Aging Regional Collaborative was launched in 2008, more than 6,400 older adults have benefited from the science-based programs. To date, 178 dynamic program instructors have been trained. 22 lead agencies connected with more than 78 community partners. Health Foundation awarded $2.7 million of direct grant assistance for program implementation (January 2009- September 2010). And those are just a few of the many numbers that add to the success of the Collaborative.

This Web site celebrates the pioneers who are making prevention a reality-- the grantees that are part of the Healthy Aging Team, Leadership Council members and all those who help to improve the quality of life for older adults. Together we can help ensure that South Florida residents can look forward to not only living longer, but to living well.
